From Kampala to Leicester
In 1972 tens of thousands of Asians were told to leave Uganda within 90 days, by President, General Idi Amin. This group installation was curated to commemorate 40 years, since this expulsion. More than 10,000 made Leicester their new home. Kajal Nisha Patel was commissioned to deliver a series of workshops with a group of women from the Ugandan Muslim community. The group were guided to create three embroidered textiles panels, which combined their memories and experiences or living in different countries.
